Program Description:

The first course in our classic Custody Evaluation 101 training has been updated to reflect the standards, guidelines and rules as of 2025!

The first course in a 40-hour series designed to provide a thorough education into Custody Evaluations/Parenting Plan Evaluations, this course will focus on various standards, guidelines and rules evaluators will need to be aware of. Participants will learn about the guidelines and standards for conducting custody evaluations. They will be provided with and will become familiar with the relevant California Rules of Court. They will be provided and become familiar with the APA Ethical Standards and the updated APA Guidelines for custody evaluations in Family Law Proceedings.

They will also be provided with the AFCC Guidelines for Parenting Plan Evaluations and will become familiar with them. They will understand the difference between Standards and Guidelines. Participants will understand the difference between clinical and forensic work. Participants will learn the requirements to become a custody evaluator. Participants will learn about Kayden’s Law and its impact on what a judicial officer can court order. Participants will learn the basic procedures required to start a custody evaluation.

Goals & Objectives:

  3. Compare the difference between clinical and forensic work.
  4. Explain what is required to become a custody evaluator.
  5. Define Kayden’s Law and its impact on what a judicial officer can court order.
  6. List the basic procedures required to start a custody evaluation.
