The subject matter of this course is one of the 21 education and training requirements required by California Rules of Court rule 5.225(d) and addresses the best practices of Child Custody Evaluators. Participants will gain rich knowledge and a deep review of Child Development; and “how it relates to child custody”. It is the first of the Education and Training requirements outlined specifically in 2019 CA. Rules of Court 5.225 - Appointment requirements for child custody evaluators and includes an overview of the current requirements needed to ensure they follow CA. Rules of Court.
Learners will be introduced to the complex issues related to divorce, child custody, making recommendations for children and developmentally appropriate levels. In addition, they will be able to identify and describe ethical considerations in child custody evaluations for children of abuse and gain specialty training, skills and techniques needed to address the children’s developmental needs. Report writing, court testimony, and risk management procedures will be also be discussed. This course was designed to aid licensed mental health practitioners in expanding their knowledge in the specialty area of Forensic Psychology/Child Custody Evaluations and meets the standards for required training for child custody evaluators.
Course Goal and Objectives
- Demonstrate knowledge of Child Development as it relates to Child Custody to fulfill the Education and Training requirements outlined specifically in 2019 CA. Rules of Court 5.225 (d)
- Apply specialty training, skills and techniques needed to address the children’s developmental needs.
- Develop an understanding of complex issues related to divorce, child custody and making recommendations.
- Identify and describe ethical considerations in child custody evaluations.
- Apply the standards of practice in child custody evaluations.
- Demonstrate an increased knowledge of the essentials in the Child Custody evaluations.
- Demonstrate knowledge in the specialty area of Forensic Psychology/Child Custody Evaluations and meet the standards for required training for child custody evaluators
