This course is number six of eight total 5-hour courses totaling 40-hours of comprehensive custody training. The full catalog of courses is designed to provide participants with the knowledge to express legally compliant, ethical and comprehensive custody evaluations. All eight courses highlight controlling American Psychological standards of practice, AFCC guidelines, and California Rules of Court.
Course numbers 7-8 are in production for release in 2020.
Course Six - Social Capital; Developmental Ages & Stages; Role Modeling; Empirically Based Interventions; How & What to Tell Children About the Evaluation Process & Results; & The Damage of Secret Keeping; 5.0 CE Hours
Participants will be introduced to the concept of social capital and will understand how to integrate the concept into the ultimate recommendations. The developmental ages and stages will be addressed in order to best understand how the developmental age and stage should impact the ultimate recommendations. The importance of positive role modeling and social learning theory will be discussed. There will be an introduction on how to recommend empirically based interventions. Participants will understand how and what to tell parents participating in a custody evaluation to share with their children. Participants will understand the damage that can occur as a result of secret keeping from children. Participants will receive a review of the historical perspective of Best Interest of the Child
Course Goal and Objectives
- Give examples of Social Capital and how to integrate that concept into developing the best possible recommendations.
- Categorize the different developmental ages and stages of children and how the needs of the children differ.
- Summarize how to integrate the different developmental stages and needs into the most appropriate recommendations.
- Explain what it means to make empirically based recommendations.
- Relate to parents how to speak to their children about the evaluation process.
- Describe how to instruct parents to speak to their children about the evaluation process results and how to provide those recommendations in the report.
- Recognize the damage that can occur when parents engage in secret keeping from their children.
