Goals
This workshop is intended to introduce the therapist to EMDR therapy with children of all ages and is based on the book “EMDR and the Art of Psychotherapy with Children: Infants to Adolescents” (Adler-Tapia & Settle, 2017). Therapists who are not already trained in EMDR therapy will review what this comprehensive and integrative psychotherapy is all about with the goal of enticing the therapist to enroll in an EMDRIA Approved EMDR therapy training.
Therapists who are trained in EMDR therapy will learn to apply case conceptualization through developmental theory in order to provide the most efficacious application of therapy with children. This workshop will provide tables to help summarize the 8 phases of EMDR therapy. A second table will be presented for therapists to consider the age of the client through stages of development and the impact on the implementation of EMDR therapy. This introductory workshop will be followed with a second webinar on the application of EMDR therapy with a young child.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the 8 phases of EMDR therapy with goals, objectives, and procedural steps.
- Recognize that the procedural steps for each phase may change depending on the developmental level of the child
- Develop child-oriented methods for target identification and organization to create a treatment plan
