Intimate Partner Violence

This training will assist the participant to understand the historical and theoretical background of domestic violence/ intimate partner violence. The participant will understand and develop competence in the procedures for assessing intimate partner violence using the 2016 AFCC Guidelines for Examining the Effects of Intimate Partner Violence on Families: A Supplement to the Model Standards of Practice for Child Custody Evaluation. Participants will learn how to apply these guidelines using standards appropriate to professional practice with diverse populations. Participants will receive a review of the laws related to intimate partner violence. The participants will also learn how to empirically link their collected data to the recommendations made to the court.
Course Goal and Objectives
- Utilize the theoretical background of domestic violence to develop competence in the practices and procedures for assessing intimate partner violence using the new AFCC Guidelines for Examining the Effects of Intimate Partner Violence on Families: A Supplement to the Model Standards of Practice for Child Custody Evaluation.
- Recognize how to apply these guidelines using standards appropriate to professional practice in diverse populations.
- Identify the laws related to intimate partner violence, types of IPV, and effects of IPV on children and parenting, and evaluation practices.
- Prepare to empirically link your collected data to the recommendations made to the court
