Earn Up to 18 Hours of Approved Training

This series of three courses fullfills up to 18 hours of training that satisfy California Rules of Court 5.225, 5.230 to become eligible or continue to perform child custody evaluations in California County Family Courts. The first two courses fulfill annual requirements for 8 hours of Custody Evaluation update training, and 4 hours of Domestic Violence update training. The third course provides 6 hours of Risk Management training for evaluators who are clinicians.

In Annual Update for Custody Evaluators, dynamic and nationally known instructor Philip M. Stahl, Ph.D., ABPP and psychologist-attorney A. Steven Frankel, Ph.D., JD, ABPP examine the revised AFCC Child Custody Model Standards, and discuss a variety of important ethical and legal issues in family law including record-keeping, confidentiality and privilege, limits on immunity, and responding to licensing Board investigations, recent research, trends, and new California case laws affecting families and the courts. In Domestic Violence Update for Custody Evaluators, Dr. Stahl and family law attorney Emberly C. Cross, JD, MSW address new research and some of the controversies in the field, especially typologies of family violence, and offer special focus on understanding the recent publication by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) on evaluations with domestic violence families. Finally, in Law and Ethics: Risk Management, instructor A. Steven Frankel, Ph.D., JD, ABPP provides indispensable tools and resources to deal with major legal, ethical, and regulatory issues and dilemmas that currently confront clinicians.

Accreditation Information

The Steve Frankel Group is approved by the Administrative Office of the Courts to offer up to18 hours continuing education credits for Custody Evaluators. These may apply either to your 40 hour requirement (if you are gaining hours to become eligible to perform child custody evaluations), or to satisfy the annual requirements for 8 hours of Custody Evaluation and 4 hours of Domestic Violence update training. While they are focused at an advanced level, they are useful and eligible for those attempting to earn their initial 40 hours of continuing education credits.
