This is the third of eight 5-hour courses that comprise the 40-hours of comprehensive training to become a custody evaluator in California.

Part 3 – Custody Evaluations 101:Challenging Issues (5 hours)

This course shall provide participants with the information necessary to accept some of the most frequently encountered “challenging issues” in court ordered evaluations in the State of California. The background as to what has historically occurred with Relocation cases will be provided.  In addition, participants shall learn how to effectively complete a Relocation assessment and what recommendations can be made.  Participants shall also learn how to assess for Substance Abuse and what to recommend.  Participants will also learn how to assess for Intimate Partner Violence and what recommendations can be effective.

 

Course Goal and Objectives

  • Describe the impact of various Relocation cases.
  • Effectively complete a Relocation Assessment, with recommendations.
  • Assess for Substance Abuse, with recommendations.
  • Assess for IPV and make effective recommendations.

 Please Note: This program includes a required and downloadable AFCC publication, “Guidelines for Examining Intimate Partner Violence: A Supplement to the AFCC Model Standards of Practice for Child Custody Evaluation©” Course post-test questions will include subject matter from the publication.
